Resoconto della giornata di scavo

Area 6000

Area 6000/A - Today in area 6000 North, we completed the context sheet for the exposed skeleton in the northeast portion and then begun the process of removing the individual, including taking soil samples. In the southeast portion we continued to excavate the cranium of the scattered skeleton, long bones and a partial pelvis are surrounding the cranium, suggesting the presence of more than one individual in the grave. The northwest portion finished excavating the cranium and began to excavate the thorax and the upper limb of one individual as well as the cranium of another individual. Excavation in the southwest portion of the area revealed that the individual buried there has a vertebrae column that is fully articulated;however, it displays potential pathology as it is severely twisted. Further excavation is needed to show the extent of the deformity before the skeleton is removed from the grave. Due to the extreme heat we concluded early after taking photos.Area 6000/B - Today, we removed the skeleton 6253 from the ground and labeled all of the bones. They were bagged and soil samples were taken. The context sheet was also filled out. We also started to expose the tibias in 6250. We also exposed the vertebrae and ribcage. On Monday, we plan to fill out the context sheet for 6248 and continue exposing the skeleton in 6253.

Area 7000

Today the middle section of area 7000 was quickly cleaned from North to South. Afterwards, the western side was pickaxed in order to clear the pavement from the modern parking lot that was previously covering this area. Once the pavement was cleared and the western section was cleaned, the entire area was wetted down to more clearly see the different layers that are exposed. The area dried enough to be able to deep clean it, exposing the yellow layer that was beneath the sediment on top. On the western side of area 7000, a red ring with about a 30 cm diameter was exposed. This ring is most likely a result of a fire action. There is a stone that appears to line up with the circle; it is unknown whether or not they are a part of the same layer.
