Resoconto della giornata di scavo

Area 6000

North sector

In the northern portion the removal of the 11th century individual USK 6546 continues, oriented WE and deposed supine in US - 6547. Further to the west the excavation of the US 6511 filling is highlighting the skeletal remains of an inhumated in anatomical connection, of which for the moment the lower limbs have emerged.

6000N

Northwest area of the section was wetted, continued to expose skeleton. Second individual was exposed that had been cut by skeleton with scattered bone.

Removed left and right lower limbs and the pelvis of US6546. Removed the right arm, ribs, and scapula.

6000/s

We finished removing skeleton  ____ and cleaned up the burial pit and rook photos. While cleaning up the cut, we noticed another seperate cut located where the feet/lower legs should have been, and upon excavation, it appears to be a hole that goes down deeper.

Area 7000

During the sixth week of excavation we dedicated ourselves to the central southern portion of the area 7000. Here, after the removal of the US 7030 in a pickaxe, a silty clay matrix layer, and US 7007, a layer characterized by the presence of numerous lithic elements of small dimensions and pebbles we managed to highlight a series of rather interesting evidences. The most interesting of these is US 7032, the result of an intense fire activity that left a ring trace of about 50 cm in diameter and over 10 cm thick. Its perimeter is also interrupted in the northern and southern area for about 20 cm, suggesting that the small furnace had two openings for the insertion of fuel and oxygen. Directly to the north of it has been identified what appears to be the filling of a rectangular cut of more than one meter in length (US 7041), of dark color due to the presence of carbon material inside it and on it insists a further patch of red color, also easily attributable to an intense and prolonged exposure to heat. Finally, the North portion of the US 7041 filling is characterized by the presence of what appears to be a plane made of split stones of uniform dimensions that do not exceed 10 cm. Digging inside US 7032, numerous waste products from metal working have been identified.

Student Section

Excavations on July 26th continued with exposing the southern section of area 7000. The southern area of 7000 was exposed further to reveal the following southern trench and find where the areas trench began and ended to follow the new area. Structural formations were charted as well as cleaned to reveal the full structure to be potentially excavated later in the dig. The day ended with a full area clean and review of area 7000.
